Electronics Engineer

A full-time position in our Research & Development Department has become available. The successful candidate shall be a senior Electronics Engineer with extensive experience, who will be involved in the design, development and support of a variety of advanced electronic instruments throughout their full life-cycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Digital and analog electronics design for embedded real-time systems. Complex architectures involving multiple, tightly-coupled modern processors and/or DSPs.
  • Responsible for the full life-cycle of hardware targeted to extensive use in rugged environments: requirements, system architecture, design, PCB layout & routing, signal integrity, simulation, verification, manufacturing (liaison), testing & qualification, systems integration, maintenance.
  • Development and maintenance of comprehensive design documentation, test plans and test procedures.
  • Active collaboration within the R&D team to address hardware–firmware integration issues.
  • Design under the context and constraints of long product lifespans. Active collaboration with purchasing in the sourcing of components.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of high-speed circuit and multi-layer PCB design.
  • In-depth experience with FPGA designs, high-speed devices and protocols.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience using modern test equipment: scopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, etc.
  • Familiar with both modern and legacy tools for design, implementation and verification:
    • Circuit and board-level design: eProduct Designer – DxDesigner (ViewDraw, ViewDRC, ViewNavigator, ViewSIM Netlister, Parts Lister, ViewPCB, Export EDIF for Xilinx); Fusion (ViewSIM). Highly-proficient in VHDL.
    • PCB layout: PowerPCB with BlazeRouter.
    • Gerber file verification: GC-Prevue (GraphiCode).
    • Xilinx design entry: ViewDraw; Xilinx ISE, Xilinx Vivado.
    • Others: LP Viewer.
  • Solid working understanding of the embedded firmware in complex systems and its interaction with the hardware.
  • Sound mechanical aptitude and understanding of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of standards and practices for work in electronics (e.g., ESD, EMI, RF design considerations).
  • Experience with instrumentation for airborne applications in rugged environments an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Meticulous attention to detail. Inquisitiveness, enthusiasm, and strong desire and effort to learn.

Electronics Technologist

New full-time opening in our Production, Service & Quality Control Department. We are looking for a senior Electronics Technologist with extensive experience, who will work closely with R&D and engineering personnel, supporting a variety of advanced electronic instruments.

Responsibilities:

  • Prompt, in-depth learning of the electronics in a comprehensive line of products used in a variety of embedded applications. Sound understanding of electro-mechanical and embedded-firmware aspects in such systems.
  • Assembly and testing of sub-assemblies, modules and complete systems.
  • Troubleshooting and repair at the sub-assembly and component level.
  • Quality control (QC) of finished products.
  • Generation and maintenance of detailed documentation of production, testing, and QC procedures.
  • Design and production of auxiliary hardware in support of R&D activities.
  • Acceptance inspection and testing of major components, parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Preparation and execution of experiments in support of R&D activities. Analysis of test results and writing of technical reports.
  • Participation in functional testing within the development cycle of new products/features.

Requirements:

  • College graduate in an Electronics Technology program.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Good, solid understanding of analog and digital electronics.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting electronics, down to the component level, based on schematic drawings and with minimum supervision.
  • Intuitive in isolating faults and identifying problems; self-motivated and self-sufficient.
  • In-depth familiarity, at the operational level, with a variety of advanced test equipment.
  • Sound mechanical aptitude and understanding of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of standards and practices for work on electronics.
  • Exposure to the design and production of systems targeted for rugged, demanding (airborne) environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Inquisitiveness, enthusiasm, and strong desire and effort to learn.
